Get Togetha Philosophy: If you don’t love it throw it out

Get Togetha is about introspection. That place deep down inside of us that will always have the remedy to our ails and our ills. Today’s subject is clutter. I love my friends. Really I do. But I have friends who wonder why they’re stuck and they’ll always blame it on the rain, random circumstances, being unlucky, da man, and meanwhile are living in the hottest of messes. Have you ever been over to someone’s place and been deeply disturbed by how they live? I’m not talking messy; more like “something ain’t right.” I’ve never been an outright slob; but I have had deep stagnation in my living space and I know what it’s like to stare deep into a closet of buyer’s remorse.

Clutter. Clutter is the antithesis of living well and living outside of yourself. I’m talking about outdated receipts, empty lotion bottles; unopened mail, and those deals you keep getting from the 99 cent store. I’m talking socks, panties and drawers with holes in them. I’m talkin dust bunnies from 91. I’m talkin cassette tapes. If you wait for the right time to live well it will never happen. You want to to be happy? Have friends over. Clean your place and get rid of everything you can’t stand to look at.

My personal philosophy will always be that your quality of life begins and end with you. It’s that simple. Whether your Democrat, Republican, Liberal or Conservative doesn’t really matter if you are stepping up to the plate of your own life. Trust. You know when you are stepping up and when you’re not.

Excellent post! I can’ t think clearly if I have too much stuff just laying around. I’m guilty with the mail thing, to a certain degree! I am purge queen and I’m glad about it!

Killjoy will be a category in the Buzz Session Blog because there are so many things that surround us that are possible killjoys; clutter being one of the many.

I have noticed when my house is clean and “De-clutterized” it makes me sublimely happy and Zen-like… I hate the fact that I am not a neat person ALL the time, but I am working on it and have come from a might long pack rat way….

And Zen is what we’re going for. Perfection is a silly unattainable goal and makes life downright miserable.

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

I spent a good part of my twenties going through IT–my life was a mess, and, consequently, so were all of my residences (and anywhere else I was). I knew the mess that I lived with (and in) was a sign of something deep; my sh** was not about being unable to keep a clean house. When I made up my mind to live better and to love myself for real, I started to find all kinds of literature / lectures / people that helped me move closer to my goal of living well. One book I found especially useful during that time (and I still reference it every now and then) is Marilyn Paul’s It is Hard to Make a Difference When You Can’t Find Your Keys. Y’all, the information in the book is powerful!

    Peace and Wellness.

    Ramona.

You hit it on the nail. You made up your mind to live better. And ultimately the choice is yours to make about the quality of your life.

There’s a difference between disorganized and a cry for help…although there’s a thin line between the two.

I wrote about this topic because getting rid of clutter isn’t reactionary; its about responding to a shift in your consciousness. Otherwise your living space will return to looking like and feeling like hell on earth.

This post is right on time for me. I’m working on the clutter thing. It’s a long, hard road.

I felt the need to write about clutter cause it can literally suck the life out of you and swallow you whole.
