inventory.

I like things. No. Even Better. I love things. Nice things. Pricey things. Quality things. I devour magazine reads like Domino, Essence, Real Simple, and Marie Claire. And I drool over Etsy, West Elm, and Crate & Barrel.

There’s a kicker tho. And here it is.  Attachment and identity. I work my spiritual butt off to not be attached to things or letting them define me. Not even that perfect media stand that I’ve been drooling over at Ikea dot com. And I want the same for my readers. I won’t be one of those writers that’ll tell you to go run out and buy a bunch of new stuff for your living space and base it solely on the premise of “cause I think its cute.”  I like to flow a little more holistically. Not because I’m holier than thou Saint GT; but because I understand that living quality is first and foremost about taking personal inventory.

I think it would be safe to say that nurturing self is an integral part of living quality. Here’s another kicker. You got to be vigilant and borderline narcissistic to be really good at it. This means creating boundaries, learning the power of no, and dedicating the personal time to grow deeper into yourself. I recommend two things; but that’s the next post.

Q&A: What are some things that you do to nurture yourself?

Setting boundaries is HUGE! I think that as women, we are encouraged to be “receptors”. We are everyone’s shoulder, miss manners and momma. I had to STOP that stuff cold. It was draining me.

I am much more careful about the people I allow into my space. That is how I nurture myself. So much of our lives involve human interaction and being able to discern who crosses the threshold and who doesn’t.

It keeps me sane to clear the clutter and that includes toxic people.

Setting boundaries is pretty easy for me; its the taking the time to “nurture self” that was and still is to a degree a challenge for GT. I’m naturally a giving person so sometimes that can be a liability.

Setting boundaries is one of the things I do to nurture myself, too.

I realized that I was sad, depressed, stressed and crazy because I lacked boundaries. Whatever anybody offered me, I took. From boyfriend to best friend, people just kept the wheels of Ramona’s life going in several different directions. It was killing me, and I felt un-nurtured.

I am learning not to negotiate my boundaries. Everyone does not have the right to walk up in my life and decide how / who I am going to be for them. My life. My terms. A good friend said to me today, “Ramona, you have to own yourself, girl.”

So, I am nurtured when I work to be in full possession of myself.

    Grace.

GT– I just started getting pedicures!! LOVE ‘EM… and a glass (or two) of wine is ALWAYS the business!!!

Oh, I also plan for tomorrow at the close of each day. I feel nurtured when I know what is going on in my life… I don’t like surprises, and I don’t feel nurtured when I am unprepared.

I saw this post yesturday and it got me thinking…What have I done to nuture myself? I treat myself all the time with clothes, shoes, makeup, perfume, accesories, unhealthy food, etc. But all of things are just stuff, superficial material that does not nuture. It just feeds the ego. Needless to say I have some work to do in order to be more nuturing to my mind, body, and soul. Thanks for asking the question.
