oldie olson: succelents

On more than one occasion GT has been suckered into buying your typical houseplant cherub from the local florist. The love affair starts innocently until you bring that baby home.  Then pow! Instant ball and chain maintenance.  As I forget that a plant is a living thing I start to resent that 1. houseplants typically grow grow grow 2. you have to buy dirt to repot them and replant them, and 3. if you plan on leaving town you either have to leave them with neighbors or give up your house keys. So unless you plan on being a horticulturist I don’t recommend buying your grandmother’s fern or any other outrageously demanding greenery.

But I don’t have to explain to you the positive aspects of putting small touches of life into your living space. So GT highly recommends succulents. Succulents are the camels of the plant world and are perfect for us folks who have a life are non-committal. They’re no fuss, affordable, uber chic, and uber hip. And you would virtually have to be an idiot to kill one.

*Ferns make you an oldie olsen.

Succulents rock! The entrance to my house is filled with them. Great suggestion for low-maintenance greenery GT.
