GT went to see “The Secret Life of Bees” at the hubby’s request on Friday. If you saw it as well I’m curious about your thoughts. On Saturday went shopping for some standard fall gear. No biggie…the standard H&M, Gap, Forever 21 Trifecta, got my eyebrows done, heard from an old friend who I feel out with & went salsa dancing with the hubby that night. The dancing sounds sexy but that actually fell kinda flat. The hubby is a bit of an awkward salsa dancer. LOL. Sunday I read my Essence subscription, threw out my well worn Summer 08 shoes, cooked, prayed, and recommitted to writing out my life list.
What are some things you’d like to talk about this week?

Hey. Y’all!
Friday: Dinner (BoneFish Grill) and a movie (The Secret Life of Bees)…
The Secret Life of Bees was a solid movie. Although I did not like the book, I have always thought The Secret Life of Bees would translate to screen well. I was right. Dakota and Sophie are brilliant actresses. Latifah and Alicia were ok; sometimes their New York accents got mixed in with their South Carolina accents, and that made for a bit of confusion. I give the movie three out of five stars!
Saturday: I had to teach a SAT Prep course on Saturday morning, so I was not a happy camper when I had to wake up before dawn on yet another day.
I also attended a potluck at my friend’s house on Saturday. After class, I rushed home and prepared sausage peppers (with tomato chutney) and sticky jasmine rice. The function was nice; the hostess had a Karoke machine, so we were all at the party messing up songs! LMAO.
Sunday: I visited another Unitarian Universalist church. The service was nice, but I think I am going to stick with the UU church near my house.
I had tea with a friend after church.
Have a great week!

I got to hang out with my someone-special who was in town for the weekend, we were going to go camping & fishing (I’m a country gal) but the weather turned sour so we had to scrap all plans and just enjoyed each others company and had the longest conversation in recorded history, lol, it was fabulous!

Ramona.
Bee’s was a solid movie. And the All Star cast pulled it off well. Sometimes I can’t believe that I’m looking at the same Latifah that I was listening to when I was a teen when she was rapping. Gosh! I don’t know about you…but there were moments when the audience was getting restless cause I think large black audiences are conditioned for Tyler Perry like-drama. The story was simple; yet the themes were complex.

Haven’t seen the film yet though I will check it out. It was a quiet weekend with me chatting with a friend and experiencing an epiphany of sorts. It required that I spend some time listening to The Word and it opened my eyes and cleansed my spirit of alot of grief I had buried.
I opened my eyes again this morning to greet a new day. Life is pretty good.

LOL. Funny times… GT got jokes.
GT, you make a good point about large black audiences being conditioned for Tyler-Perry drama. I found that people at the movies I attended laughed at innapropriate times, and they could not really settle into the story.
I forgot to say that Jennifer Hudson’s performance was acceptable. I have a few issues with J-Hud as an actress, but I am not hating on the fact that she has been blessed.

Ramona and I must be living parallel lives. On Saturday, after dinner at Bonefish, my girls and I went to see the movie.
I thought it was okay – I’d give it a B-; I liked the book more. Several things were just skimmed over – including the powerful role of the church in the story. I probably would’ve liked it more had I not read the book. The cast did a good job, particularly Sophie O.
And OMG Ramona – it was the same here with inappropriate laughter – it took the audience here a minute to realize that her character was . . . delayed.

Hey GT.
I had a quiet weekend. Got into an argument with the boyfriend on Saturday night over some dumb stuff; but we made up the next day. I can’t wait till you start talking about relationships. I’m going to see the movie tomorrow after work…I forgot that it was even out. I’m a huge fan of Alicia Keys…so I’m curious to see her on the thespian side…

Tasted about a zillion different apples at an orchard in central cali with the kids. I really think my taste buds are forever altered. EVERYTHING I eat or drink has a hint of apple in it.

Funny you mentioned apples. Last week I baked apples pies with my neighbor’s four year old son. It was fun but dang…the kiddies are a bundle of energy no?

I love discussing relationships…People think cause I’m married that I revoked my relative ness to single ladies, and single life…

I was thinking that perhaps the book was better. I’ll give Bee’s a solid B. The cast did their job and your right…Sophie O is a true thespian. Gurl dug deep to find the pain of her role…

Thanks for sharing your truth about your buried pain. Gurl we all have it and it takes a courageous person to admit and release that grief into the Universe.
I love having heart to hearts and Aha! moments with friends. Being open to those experiences truly help you grow. Sounds like you had a healing weekend.
