collecting: pitter. patter

bird cage

The act and the art of collecting falls within the basic human need to cherish. Cherishing is an exercise in self awareness and a way to personally invest in our own unique brand of what makes our heart go pitter patter. For GT; collecting is something that I do to stand apart from the crowd; kinda like having my own personal museum. So far I have a collection of wine corks from bottles that I’ve opened over the last five years, an African-American Stamp collection, my favorite children’s books, and Dr. Susan L. Taylor Articles.

So readers…What do you collect and why do you collect it?

I love books, but I’m not much of a collector. Less is more for me and I’m not very attached to alot of things. I love handbags and shoes as well. That’s about all I “collect”. ;)

    I think I collect thoughts. LOL. As much as I think I can never seem to bring them out into actions. (I know, that’s bad). : }

Although I am not a serious collector of fine writing instruments, I love to browse the shops for bargains. I try to keep my findings under two-hundred U.S. dollars.

I also collect books, but I have taken a break because I don’t have any room for another book in my tiny house. If I ever get that reconstructed farm house that keeps appearing in my dreams, I am going to build a beautiful library! I am a nicer person when I am around books.

p.s. I love that you collect corks; do you store your corks in a vase?

I collect books and barbies. The barbie collection started when my first niece was born. I saw this really beautiful black angel barbie and I was hooked. Next year, I’ll start handing the collection over to my daughter.

I collect books and magazines, but storage is getting to be an issue. I also collect postcards from my travels.

    First Lady.

Trust. You are not the only one in that category. Plenty of folks including myself get stuck on the inaction bus. But that requires an entirely different kind of post…

Simone. Shoes and Handbags will never let you down and you don’t have to fit a size 2 or a size 12 to have complete satisfaction. Ha!

    Ramona.

Back in the day I used to work at Macy’s and I absolutely fell in love with Mont Blanc Pens. Didn’t know a writing instrument world existed…but when you live you learn right?

I like the fact that you know you’re nicer around books!

    Lazon.

A wittle secret of mine is that I’m hooked on Essence magazine. I’n my thirty something years I don’t think I’ve ever missed an issue. Some of their articles and ideas are either so lame or-re hashed but I just love the feeling of the pages between my fingers…

I think I just had a TMI moment.

    Hey GT.

I’ve been collecting Barack Obama magazine covers for about a year. It’s obvious that the man sells magazines so he’s been on virtually every issue you can think of and I have them all. I’m like Lazon as well…I love postcards. My latest is a Basquiat and Andy Warhol image…

    Nice post.

GT, I collect ESSENCE magazines, too! So much that they started taking up too much space on my shelves, so I went and cut out all the interesting pictures and articles, which I organize by topic. I store them in sheet protectors in a binder. I cut out and save the covers I like the best, as well.

I threw out 4 years worth of Essence magazines last year. It was hard letting go, I skimmed through each of them before taking them out. I’m starting to collect greeting cards again. I enjoy finding great cards and sending them to friends and family. I’m making it a point to collect cards made by indie designers this go around (no offense to hallmark)

I don’t really have a collection, but my son collects off beat snow globes [non holiday specific LOL]. My husband collects guitars…hmph, looks like I need to get a hobby.

Four years? Dang. That is hard and I feel your pain.

Snobe Globes are magical to many people…my husband collects Jazz Albums…I’m actually proud of his collection…

Thanks for validating my collection of coffee sleeves. My wife thinks I’m crazy. Also, I hope you don’t live in an earthquake zone- dangerous!
