SFW.

Tabloid fodder, celeb resentment, NSFW posts and diss rants are the stuff that wildly successful money making blogs are made of. It’s a content, marketing, and distribution gold mine and you wanted in. You wanted in on a chance to sit on your arse and collect. Problem is…you more than likely jumped on the blog boat too little too late and now your futile attempt at becoming a writer/entrepreneur is lost at sea with a bajillion other wannabes.  Eff that. You toss the dice anyways only to receive maybe one or two comments: yourself and tallmingle dot com. Frustrated and unwilling to sacrifice your Project Runway time; you quit. Cause your talking to yourself, your writing sux and your template is freakishly hideous.

Welcome to the Omnipresent Blog Universe. Where with few exceptions, the more shit you talk the more ad revenue keeps the lint out of your pockets. You chalk it up to bad timing and not being in the right place at the right time. So you reduce your blog participation to voyeurism: seeing who’s the latest baddis chick, SYH, LYAO, making snap judgments, and essentially lambasting celebs to make the short hand on the clock speed demon from 9 to 5.

I don’t know about chu but there’s something not quite clean in the milk about dogging people out day in and day out. It took a “Riddle me This?” moment to realize that I was actually causing some serious karmic hemorrhaging by participating in what I’ll respectfully call low vibrations. Yes! It’s fun to do hood rat stuff; but you pay the price.  I had to stop for me; not cause I don’t like talking shit; but because I believe in Karma like a mug.

Partly the reason why Get Togetha was born. I simply wanted to create an environment where women could share ideas about how to live quality through conversation. Sounds meh. Like an insulin shot of boring ho hum; but karmically it rocks and I’m actually proud of that.

This all to say that this is GT’s 100th post. I remember when hitting the refresh button was the only action going on in GT town. Now I’m ever so grateful that I get to meet woman who share my vision of living quality, loving life, and living it to the fullest.

    Congratulations! I just hit fifty posts myself and i can’t believe it. Like you, I started my blog because there just seemed to be too much focus on celebrities, fashion, makeup and other stuff in the negrosphere. Nearly 5 million black women are mothers and less than one hundred are celebrities. Heck, less than 50 are celebs. In my opinion, something was missing from the conversation. It’s great to see famous folks posted up at parties, wearing expensive duds and dating other famous folk. But what about trying to help black women (3.5 million of them are raising children alone) raise healthy, well-adjusted, confident children? There are so many white-run parenting blogs and magazines and hardly any for families of color. I just wanted to put something out there that was different. I hardly get any traffic yet but I don’t care. If one or two people find something useful or can think about relating to their child in a deeper way than I am happy.

    So many of those gossip sites are ridiculously hateful anyway. The commenters are either delusional fans or jealous haters. The grammar is usually atrocious, to boot.

    I really enjoy your site. I don’t even remember how I found it but I visit everyday (sometimes more than once) because you always have something important and honest to say.

    Keep up the good work!

    Congrats. I’ve only recently starting frequenting your blog, by way of Clutch, and to me it’s such a breath of fresh air. I’ve been a blogger since I was 16 (I’m 22), and I’ve seen it go from people writing about their daily activities to putting celebs on blast all day. Sure, they get me through my mornings at work, but at the end of the day, they don’t stimulate my mind, not one bit. So props to you and the others who can actually write a thought-provoking post without a single mention of Lil’ Wayne and his antics.

    Congratulations! I visit your site everyday, first introduced from BrownSista. I love it. and as “ceecee” said, it is definitely a breath of fresh air. I am truly addicted. And may I also say, gettogetha.com has truly said some things I surely needed to hear to GET TOGETHA! So thanks again, for teaching me to love my own bad ass self with no regrets and no apologies. I AM ME! and I am learning to LOVE IT. Keep em’ coming! You’ll make a “Woman” out of me yet! : }

    Much Wished Peace and Blessings!

    more over if we’d just bask in our own uniquness we’d see that there is other ways in winning by shinning a light on your own unique talents and gifts. There really is room for EVERYONE…

    so sad so bad..that most of the black blog world THOUGHT you could win by talking about how pregnant beyonce is or isn’t. enough is enough already.
