Inspiration is everywhere…and introspection is never too far behind so I’m proud to present to you the beautiful truth teller Dana Roc. GT swears to the heavens that I don’t go looking for these people; I attract them. Dana drops some serious gems in this interview that I will keep with me for a lifetime so enjoy.
What is Dana Roc’s claim to fame?
I publish a weekly ezine who’s focus is inspiration, culture, and humanitarianism. My objectives are plain and simple: to encourage people to live a great life and to contribute to other people’s success in the process. I love to win and to help others win!
What do you feel are the keys to living a successful life?
1. Being curious and authentic. 2. Not being afraid to be who you are without apology 3. Embracing the good and bad in life.
At Get Togetha inspiration is a large part of who and what we are. Who’s your inspiration and what motivates you to do what you do?
I’m inspired by people who overcome obstacles and go on to do great things that contribute to other people’s well being.
What do you feel is the number one reason why people do not follow a life of their dreams?
Inauthentic fear is the number one reason why people do not live a life of their dreams. Most people are afraid of something that either is not real or that does not matter. The way to break away from that is by practicing the act of honoring your commitments-what you said that you would do-rather than honoring your fear. In other words…talk a big game and then be somebody who does what they say they will do no matter what.
How can women take the necessary steps to live a more fulfilling courageous life?
Talk. Talk about meaningful things and don’t be afraid to share who you really are. My experience with DanaRoc has taught me a few things: 1. Many people don’t have the experience of being heard yet they want nothing more than to be heard about what they are up to and what they are dealing with. 2. People who hear about other people’s stories get inspired to do things that they have always wanted to do but keep putting off.
In your opinion what is the most challenging aspect of walking the road less traveled?
Feeling alone and misunderstood, definitely. And its also very challenging to have to be your own cheerleader; to continuously be your own source of reassurance and validation.
Having Get Togethas help alleviate that lonely road and make life worth living. If you could have dinner with anyone alive or dead who would it be and what would you serve?
I would have dinner with Stan Brook because he is so passionate about the healthcare crisis in our country and so compassionate about caring for sick people around the world. His energy is contagious. I’d also like to have dinner with Ira Glass, host of NPR’s “This American Life” because I admire him for being the best at what he does. I’d serve filet mignon on a salad of arugula, strawberries, red onion and vinaigrette dressing with cheddar dill scones. I served this the other night and it was a huge hit.
