Chanel. Can you give Get Togetha readers the nuts and bolts of how you started Junk Prints?…And what on earth inspired your company name?
The concept of the name “JunkPrints” originates from a collage project I did using my junk prints (unwanted photography). I majored in photography. When I started printing tees and REALLY focusing on my art the name stuck.

In five words describe life as an entrepreneur.
Crazy. Amazing. Exhausting. Rewarding. Fun.

I love your entire web presence. Did you design it? Yes.

Who or what inspires you to do what you do and what keeps you motivated?
I’m inspired by people; primarily the way they interact with each other. I figure that each individual has so much potential and I’m attempting to maximize mine while doing the best I can at everything I do.

Who is your dream client and what celebrities come to mind for fashion inspiration?
Dream Client: Costume design for Cirque Du Soleil. I would love to be: Guest Creative Director for Trace Magazine, V Magazine, Frank Mag and The Fader. As you can see; I’m a mag junkie. Big Dream: To open a JunkPrints loves Sanrio store in Tokyo complete with indoor trampoline. I’m not big on Celebrities but I’d work with them if they want me to.

What advice can you give to those who want to do their own thing?
Be brave. Get out there. Make a ton of mistakes. Get the wind knocked out of you and keep it moving.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Best Advice: Normal is a “construct.” People made that all up. Feel free to challenge the ideology of that.

GT: I always say that normal is as deep as the name of a cycle on the wash machine.

What do you tend to splurge on? Skimp on?
I’m really frugal and normally don’t splurge on anything but food is my weakness. If you are what you eat then I’m eating really good no matter what. Case closed.

Tell us something that people would be surprised to learn about you?
Fact 1. I’m super duper organized to the point of neurosis. Fact 2. I thoroughly enjoy looking at other people’s living spaces. Sometimes I go apartment hunting with no intention to move. Just to look at a space.

And in GT fashion if you could have any over for dinner alive or dead who would they be and what would you serve?
I would love to chat and dine with Grace Jones, Gordon Parks, Kurt Vonnegut, Robert Frank and many more but if they were wack I’d just kick them out and finish my meal with my Grandma Dee Dee because she’s amazing and I know that to be the truth. (GT: Love that answer!) I would serve Mateer Paneer Roti’s from Ghandi’s in Toronto and I don’t care if everyone gets the poots!
