Blog Crush: Treat.

Name: Derilyn Chambers
City: Chicago
Url: http://www.treat.tyepad.com
Quote to live by: “The most important challenge in my life is to always test the limits of my abilities, do the best job I can at the time while remaining true to myself.”- Mae C. Jamison.

Even though she blogs only when she’s inspired; Derilyn’s design blog “Treat” is a fresh respite from the usual who’s who and what’s what that usually garners our attention in the blog world.  As always I feel like an immense do gooder when I get to share what I’ve come across on my blog travails. And this one’s a goodie: Derilyn has an inner light of positive shine. (She’s talks about cultivating a humane spirit for goodness sakes….) so on to the interview…(and goodness which GT will defend till death…)

Why she blogs….
I blog for many different reasons: I blog because I believe in “the little things” (quoted from India Arie) and I love to make discoveries and share them with others. I also like to bring awareness to things that I think make other people’s lives a bit more delightful. I also blog because as an African American woman I want to teach and encourage others to look beyond stereotypical perspectives in the world.

What’s the best and worst part of blogging…
Loves…the positive feedback of reader response and when readers share something.  The worst: to not be consumed by it. I used to blog everyday, but I was getting worn out from that. I blog less frequently now to maintain-for me-a more balanced life.

Who and or what inspires you?
I think its important to have many people and things to inspire you. If you “hold all your eggs in one basket” you may be disappointed. So, what inspired me more than any particular person, are the gifts and experience from people in my life. By seeing the gifts in all people you really understand what beauty and inspiration are all about. One of my most recent inspirations is the compassion of Malaak Compton-Rock. I also love former Editor-In-Chief of Essence Magazine, Susan Taylor Speak. (She’s also GT’s friend in head). There’s also my family, teachers I’ve had, sunshine,  a warm and contagious smile, patience, love, and in essence the spirit of something greater than myself inspires me.

When are you happiest?
When I’m with the hubby making ups songs when we’re making breakfast. I love it when we communicate with just a look. When I’m zoned out designing or drawing. A “thank you” from a stranger. And when I can find peace in the midst of chaos. (GT: Love that!)

For what would you like to be remembered?
As a person who affected change through compassion and to provide opportunity for those who are less fortunate. This question is obvious is a part of constant reevaluation and evolution.
