Quote to Live By: “Always be a first-rate version of yourself instead of a second-rate version of someone else.”
Certain blogs are a must check out in the GT RSS feeder and In Her Shoes is on that list. If you’ve taken a stab or have thought about taking a stab at creating your own thing its best to arm and align yourself with as much inspiration as humanly possible otherwise you’ll talk yourself out of your own dream. We also share the same pet peeve…
In Her Shoes = women on their grustle (grind/hustle). What inspired you to highlight the journeys of young women in business?
In Her Shoes was created to empower women to be the captain of their own ships by living an entrepreneurial lifestyle. Entrepreneurship is not easy or for the faint of heart so In Her Shoes provides that source of inspiration when the journey of being in business becomes challenging. Sometimes all we need to know is that we’re not alone.
What is In Her Shoes biggest dream?
To be a global movement for progressive women everywhere. As women in America many of us take the freedom that we have to follow our dreams for granted. There are many countries where women’s voices are silenced and go unheard. I’d like to see In Her Shoes become synonymous with female empowerment, inspiration and progression.
In business who is your girl crush?
There are many but I’ll start with the Queen Bee of Media; Oprah. Much respect due. Others: Carol H. Williams and Tyra Banks.
GT: Luv Tyra. I think she’s one of the smartest women in business today.
We are now living in a time where everyone wants to get their shine on. From a Marketing and PR standpoing how can women stand out in a sea of sameness?
Sometimes people think they have to do big things to stand out from the crowd but in my experience I’ve found that the little things we do on a consistent basis are more powerful. I highly recommend that you be yourself; you are the only you that was ever created. Focus on what you can bring to the table that others can’t.
Snap Judgments:
Mac Or PC? Mac. Of Course.
Crossaint or Bagel? Crossaint.
Pet Peeve? Phoniness.
Heels or Flats? Heels.
What can readers expect in 2010 for IHS?
In Her Shoes will be celebrating a year. Next Level: Amazing Guest Bloggers, more giveaways and increased original video content and vlogging. I’m a PR person and naturally more comfortable behind the scenes but may surprise my readers and myself with a few videos.
And lastly if you could have anyone over for a Get Togetha who would they be and what would you serve?
Mrs. Obama; the poster child of beauty, strength & grace. I’d ask her a zillion questions on how she juggles it all while serving her my Trini roots: curry chicken, roti, mango chow and callaloo.

Oh chile….I love her hair, first of all. I just checked out her blog too. Love that even more! I love that she encourages me to be myself. You do see a lot of sameness in the blogosphere and it’s nearly impossible to stand out. But I’ll just keep my nose to the grind until I get what I came for.

It’s great to be recognized by your peers. Having been Captain of my ship since 83 I know that the feeling you get from being able to Bless others with your Gift is 2nd to none. Continuing to acknowledge HIM as your source and Perseverence does pay off at the end of the day! The Harder you work the luckier you get!…TRUST ME!!!!
