sneak peek: rue mag

I really love this preview image of  online decor mag and stylish living guide: Rue. It’s a really great shot and while I’d rather see a decor mag makes its debut in print circulation; something to keep our decor hearts inspired is better than nadazerozipzilch. Anne Sage; who has a sickawesome killer design eye and blogs on an consistent and insanesickassasin level is one of Rue’s co-founders and a better person couldn’t be more talented for the job.  Premieres in Sept!

discuss: what’s in your name?

What’s the short of the long story behind your name? And does your name mean a thing? It’s funny how some names are made by the individual…Oprah (adopt me!), Beyonce, Tyra, Fantasia, Rhianna (not everyone has a Mustafa Lion King moment) and how some names are written Obama (translation: blessed handsome one), Leonardo DiCaprio (named after notable Italian painter and artist). So here’s Gt’s short of the long. Like all Afro’d seventies cool cats my dad takes my very preggers Afro’d momma out on a movie and Harlem soul food date where they held hands, made out, and saw a very obsure blaxpoitation revenge tale entitled..you guessed it…Melinda. (IMBd makes post like this possible…). My mom (and dad) became smitten with the on screen blaxpoitation beauty Vonetta McGhee and all of her fineness. So there you have it. Named after a Harlem seventies flick. What’s your fun and light version?

not expensive cuteness.

Every once and a while Get Togetha’s navigation thumb will turn green and find an eye catching (ooh…that’s cute!) planter out of the ordinary. Let’s face it. Being responsible for a breathing living thing when you’re life is on the go (Pets and Plants = maintenance) is not the most appealing thing for the apartment lifestyle but these Recycled Felt Plant Islands are just downright easy on the design eye. On a personal note I’ve killed enough house plants to make the Devil dance for joy. So this post isn’t for me. It’s for you. Accepting flaws and all is the name of the game…

Had. Had to post this. Women all shades of beautiful working their own personal brand of stylin. No one looks uncomfortable with their body type, out of place or mannequin like. There’s nothing like the beauty of shining brightly in your own skin and street fashion has really given women like myself an outlet in appreciating the true celebration of all things un-cookie cutter. It’s a new day to be you. Wouldn’t you agree? (more…)
